Lisa Flynn
Director / Singing Teacher
Melbourne Voiceworks has worked with a range of teachers over the years, but today, Lisa is the primary teacher guiding all students.
Experience
Lisa is an accomplished vocalist with extensive performance experience across both original and cover projects, spanning a diverse range of musical styles. She has performed in duos, trios, and large ensembles, including big bands featuring 12+ instrumentalists, and was selected to represent Australia at the World Championship of Performing Arts in Los Angeles in 2017.
With over 15 years of teaching experience, complemented by ongoing vocal study and professional performance work, Lisa brings a refined and comprehensive understanding of vocal technique and stylistic versatility. Her approach is grounded in both practical experience and a deep knowledge of the voice, enabling students to develop skill, confidence, and artistic identity.
Alongside her teaching at Melbourne Voiceworks, Lisa co-writes music for film and television with a Melbourne-based producer. Her songs have featured in various international advertising campaigns, as well as in a feature film starring Jennifer Garner.
Credentials
She has a Bachelor of Music, Advanced Diploma of Jazz/Popular music, and has completed the Estill Figure Proficiency Certification.
Estill is a voice model endorsed by vocalists and voice professionals worldwide. The model encourages independent control of all vocal structures within the larynx that are responsible for generating voice, and components of the vocal tract (or throat) responsible for regulating resonance.
Developing an understanding of how to voluntarily control the structures of the voice, and how to apply them to songs, empowers vocalists with the freedom, control, and flexibility to realize the true potential of their voice, without strain or compromising the health of the voice. The Estill model is based on voice science, and lends its appropriateness to all music genres, both speaking and singing.
Approach
Lisa is known for her calm, supportive presence and her natural ability to put students at ease from the very first lesson. She takes the time to understand each student’s unique voice, musical goals, and any challenges they may be experiencing, allowing her to tailor a highly effective and personalised approach to learning.
Her teaching goes beyond technique. Lisa works with students to gently reframe limiting beliefs and unhelpful patterns, replacing them with a more confident, empowered mindset that supports both vocal development and personal growth.
Deeply passionate about her work, Lisa is committed not only to helping students achieve exceptional vocal results, but also to nurturing the individual behind the voice.

Lisa is everything you’d hope for in a vocal coach......patient, incredibly encouraging, and most importantly, FUN. She creates such a relaxed, supportive environment that you forget you were ever nervous in the first place.
